Advancing the Status of Women Worldwide

The Zonta Club of Harrisburg-Hershey puts forth a large amount of effort each year raising funds to provide thousands of dollars in service grants to worthy organizations in the community, and to contribute to the International good.

Last year, we raised over $10,000. which we gave away in the following ways:

  • Service Grants to local community organizations - $6155
  • ZI Foundation Funds - $2790 (Funds below; for fund descriptions, visit the ZI page)
    • International Service Projects - $970
    • Rose Fund - $200
    • Amelia Earhart Fellowship Fund - $400
    • Jane M. Klausman Business Scholarship Fund - $400
    • Young Women in Public Affairs Fund - $400
    • ZISVAW - $600
  • Rose Day - $275
  • Scholarships for High School and College women (scroll down for details) - $1000.

The Zonta Club of Harrisburg-Hershey has met it's fundraising goal for 2007-08!

Many thanks to our members and friends who assisted in getting us there. Now comes the fun part of giving it all away!  Grant applications will be accepted in January, and scholarship applications will be accepted later in the spring. 

Since the Club's inception in 1981, more than $100,000.00 has been donated to local agencies such as:

      • Shalom House
      • Domestic Violence Servics of Cumberland & Perry Counties
      • New Hope Ministries
      • Carlisle YWCA and the Tech Girlz and Girlz Camp programs
      • Greater Harrisburg YWCA
      • the Maternal Assistance Program at Holy Spirit Hospital
      • Bethesda Mission
      • Promise Place Capital Region
      • Dauphin County Witness/Victims Assistance Program
      • Pillows of Love

Each year, we provide funding for two academic scholarships for local women: 

Competing with thousands of applicants around the world, our scholarship winners have had great success moving on to the District 3 and International levels:

  • Lora Atanasova of Drexel University (from Bulgaria) is our 2007 Jane M. Klausman Women in Business scholarship recipient.  She has gone on to win at the District and International Levels as well.
  • Alma Aldrich of Carlisle is our 2006 Young Women in Public Affairs award winner. She also won at the District 3 level, and was selected as an International winner. She is now a student at Cornell University.
  • Cara Jellison of York and Bucknell University was our 2006 Jane M. Klausman Women in Business scholarship winner. She moved on to win at the District 3 level, and was one of six women chosen as an International winner.
  • Irina Volk of Drexel University was our 2005 Jane M. Klausman scholarship recipient. She was a District and International level winner as well.

The Zonta Club of Harrisburg-Hershey contributes over $3000 annually to Zonta International for efforts that support our global mission.

The Club membership selects fund raising projects for each year. Members work collaboratively to make the projects successful.  Links to the most current projects can be found on the left side of this page.
