Advancing the Status of Women Worldwide

Serving Southcentral Pennsylvania, we are a chartered club of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together since 1919 to advance the status of women.  As a 501(C)3 public charity, the Zonta Club of Harrisburg-Hershey is qualified to receive gifts, grants, and contributions which are deductible for United States federal income tax purposes.

On Tuesday, December 6, The Zonta Club of Harrisburg-Hershey held our Zonta Says ‘No’ Rally at the State Capitol Rotunda to recognize the international 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence Campaign.

"Violence against women is a worldwide pandemic - it crosses every social and economic class, every religion, race and ethnicity. At least one out of every three women worldwide have experienced violence during their lifetime. We in Zonta International cannot accept this – we need to use all our energy to eradicate violence against women locally and internationally through service and advocacy."

Sonja Hönig Schough, Zonta International President

 --------------------------------------------------                                          Zonta Facts

The name "Zonta" is derived from the Sioux Indian word meaning honest and trustworthy. Zonta's emblem is a composite of five Sioux symbols.

The Zonta flower is a yellow rose and March 8th is Zonta Rose Day. All Zontians worldwide are encouraged to commemorate Zonta Rose Day/International Women's Day in whatever manner is appropriate in their countries and areas, using the symbol of the yellow rose.

Amelia Earhart was an early member of Zonta and each year we honor her with a special trip or event.
